AKQA Shuffles Managing Directors

NEW YORK AKQA is changing managing directors at its New York and London offices.

The independent digital shop is moving Jason Whiting, managing director of its Washington D.C., office, to New York, where he will lead both East Coast operations. Whiting replaces Guy Wieynk, who is returning to London, where he will take up the post of managing director in early July.

Wieynk, 38, spent five years with AKQA in the U.S., initially working in San Francisco in 2003 as an account director on Xbox and Nike. He was promoted to client services director in 2005. In 2006, Wieynk moved to New York to serve as managing director of AKQA's newly opened outpost there, which has since grown to employ 70 staffers.

In London, Wieynk fills a position vacated by Michael de Kare-Silver two years ago and filled on an interim basis by agency chairman Ajaz Ahmed.

Wieynk originally joined AKQA there in 1997 as an account director, working on Xbox, Palm and MSN. In addition to the London office, Wieynk will help grow AKQA's Amsterdam, the Netherlands, outpost. All told, AKQA has about 390 people working in Europe.

"We want to mirror what we've done in New York in Amsterdam," Wieynk said. "Who knows there could be more offices in Europe."

Whiting joined AKQA four years ago after serving as a consultant at Accenture. He worked with clients U.S. Postal Service, Discovery Channel and DoubleClick.
