Wired Ups Howard Mittman to Publisher

Wired has reached inside its ranks for its new publisher, elevating associate publisher Howard Mittman to the post.

Mittman succeeds Chris Mitchell, who was tapped last week to be vp, publisher of Condé Nast Traveler as part of a larger publisher shakeup at the company.

Mittman, whose appointment takes effect immediately, had been the associate publisher of Wired since September 2006. Earlier, he was ad director at Popular Science.

Like most magazines, Wired has faced a falloff in ad pages amid the economic downturn.
