The U.K. Evening Standard newspaper will break its tradition of not publishing on bank holidays (it hasn’t done so in 50 years) in order to be the first paper to carry pictures of Kate Middleton and Prince William’s “balcony kiss” at the Royal Wedding on Friday, the Guardian reported.
It will be the first time that the paper has run two editions since January of last year when Russian businessman Alexander Lebedev took over and stopped the practice. The first Friday edition (without the kiss) will hit newsstands at 1 p.m., while the second edition will go to press as soon as the picture is taken, to be released around 2:30 p.m.
The Evening Standard is planning to sell 500,000 of its usual 700,000 copies to the huge crowd that will be gathered in London for the occasion. The double edition of the paper could also mean good news for ads—the biggest advertiser currently signed up is a building developer, the Berkeley Group.
