Time Inc. Swipes Two Execs from Condé Nast

The Condé Nast-Time Inc. switchout continues, as two high-ranking salespeople leave Condé Nast for rival Time Inc. titles.

Stephanie Sladkus is leaving Condé Nast’s Lucky for Time Inc.’s People StyleWatch to work under Karin Tracy, StyleWatch’s newly named publisher and Sladkus’ former boss at Lucky. Sladkus will be associate publisher at StyleWatch, the same position she held at Lucky, but this time at a smaller title.

Sladkus returns to familiar ground; she used to sell ads for Time Inc.’s Teen People, which has since folded.

The changes kicked off last week when Michelle Myers gave up the publisher job at StyleWatch for the same position at Lucky magazine, taking three StyleWatch salespeople with her.

Meanwhile, Vogue is losing an associate publisher and Condé Nast veteran. Tim O’Connor is leaving for Time Inc.’s InStyle, which is helmed by another Vogue vet, Connie Anne Phillips. O’Connor had been associate publisher of Vogue, where Phillips served as managing director until she was lured to InStyle a year ago. At InStyle, O’Connor was named associate publisher for advertising. A Vogue rep said only, “We wish him well.”

The Time Inc. titles seem to be faring better this year when it comes to ad page growth. This year through March, InStyle’s pages were up 16.6 percent (from 16.4 percent) to 509, while StyleWatch posted a 136 percent gain, to 136. Vogue was essentially flat at 560 while Lucky was up 16.6 percent to 237 in the same period, per the Mediaweek Monitor.
