Sports Illustrated Names New Publisher

Brendan Ripp succeeds Frank Wall

Sports Illustrated

There were more changes at Time Inc. today, where Brendan Ripp was named the new publisher of Sports Illustrated and SI.com, reporting to Time Inc. evp and Sports Group president Mark Ford.

He succeeds Frank Wall, who quietly left after two years in the position to become svp of national sales for Time Warner’s Turner Sports. Ripp's promotion was announced internally by Todd Larsen, evp and group president of News and Sports.

Ripp has worked 14 years at Time Inc., serving in leadership jobs at Time and Money and most recently as vp of sales and marketing at Fortune. At 33, he became the youngest publisher of Time since founding editor Henry Luce. The SI job is a homecoming of sorts; he was an undergraduate intern there in 1996.

He's also the son of Time Inc. CEO Joe Ripp, which has made the move the subject of close scrunity by company watchers. The elder Ripp served in several roles at Time Inc. and its sibling companies until 2004, and father and son overlapped in the early 2000s. Joe Ripp returned in the summer of 2013 as chief executive.

Ripp’s replacement at Fortune hasn't been named.
