Rodale’s Prevention has named Lori Burgess as its new publisher, replacing Laura Petasnick, who left in March for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia after a year and a half in the job.
Burgess has had publishing roles at several of the industry’s leading titles, including House & Garden, Elle and Seventeen. Most recently, she was publisher at The Hollywood Reporter, which, like Adweek, is owned by Prometheus Global Media; and before that, OK!
In her new role, Burgess will oversee print and digital sales and marketing for Prevention, reporting to Chris Lambiase, svp and publishing director. On the editorial side, Prevention continues to be overseen by Rodale über-editor Dave Zinczenko, evp and editor of Men's Health.
Prevention, along with the rest of the magazine industry, has had a slow start to the year; its ad pages declined 18.5 percent to 158 in the first quarter versus the year-ago period. The magazine's circulation has fared better; total average circ declined 1 percent to 2.9 million in the second half of 2011, propped up by an 11 percent increase in newsstand sales.
