Parade magazine reports it has signed up 71 new newspapers in 2008, claiming at least 53 have come from the ranks of rival USA Weekend’s clients. It boasts 470 newspapers, according to a release.

“Since the beginning of the year, Parade, the most widely read magazine in America, has added 71 new newspapers with a total circulation of 2.42 million to its distribution network,” the release sent Monday stated. “Parade’s circulation is 33 million in more than 470 newspapers across the country, effective January 2009. Fifty-three of the newspapers beginning distribution of Parade in 2008 and 2009 have converted from USA Weekend.”

USA Weekend officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Parade’s list of new clients includes: the Houston Chronicle, Sioux City (IA) Journal and New Haven (CT.) Register.

“We are delighted to count these great newspapers among our list of distinguished partners,” Randy Siegel, president and publisher of Parade, said in a statement.

Parade Editor Janice Kaplan added: “As a national publication, we make every effort to present articles and columns that have broad importance and appeal to all our readers. At the same time, we take great pride in being the newspaper magazine of choice in each community we serve.”
