Need a reason to watch the new fall series? For the next month, social networking site GetGlue is teaming up with Entertainment Weekly and the Gap to offer real-life rewards to users who tune into certain shows, AdAge reported.
From September 15 through October 15, GetGlue users who check into one of EW’s 12 recommended fall shows, like Pan Am or New Girl, will receive a 40 percent off discount on regularly priced adult items at the Gap. Users can unlock virtual stickers on GetGlue, co-branded by the Gap and EW, to find instructions on how to get the rewards.
GetGlue and EW partnered on a similar promotion last spring which let the site’s users check into items from the magazine’s "Must List"—including music, books, movies, and TV shows—to access special content on EW.com. Another partnership sponsored by HTC last summer entered users into a movie ticket giveaway for checking into EW’s movie picks.
"Checking in from the couch and unlocking retail coupons is a big deal, and I think that's going to be a big part of social TV in the future," GetGlue CEO and founder Alex Iskold told AdAge. His company has a revenue arrangement with EW, he said, and receives cash and ad space from the deal.
