Eric Schurenberg to lead newly integrated editorial team

Mansueto Ventures is shaking up the masthead at Inc. as it integrates the magazine’s print and digital staffs. Eric Schurenberg has been named editor in chief of the brand for entrepreneurs, while Jane Berentson is leaving her position as the magazine's editor after five years. 

Schurenberg has been the editor of Inc.com for the past year, during which the site has experienced rapid audience growth. Before joining Inc.com, he was editor of CBS MoneyWatch.com and BNET.com and managing editor of Money magazine.

“He and his staff have driven much of the extraordinary growth the site enjoys today," Bob LaPointe, president of Inc., said of Schurenberg. "Integrating our editorial staffs not only maximizes the value we provide to our growing audience, but it also optimizes our editorial reach and sets the stage for moving Inc. into other media and channels of distribution."

Berentson, who will stay on as Inc.’s international editor, leaves on a high note; Inc. was just named a finalist for a National Magazine Award for General Excellence in the category of Active- and Special-Interest Magazines. 

Inc.’s ad pages declined 9.5 percent to 654 in 2011, according to Publishers Information Bureau. Circulation fared better; it was flat at 706,774 in the second half of 2011, according to the Audit Bureau of Circulations.
