Daily News Layoffs Continue

Bad day for New York print media as Village Voice editors step down, New York Post offers buyouts

The Daily News is undergoing a rash of layoffs, Capital New York reported. Around 15 employees were given pink slips yesterday, with another round of cuts planned for today.

The Daily News has not had such a large-scale downsizing since editor in chief Colin Myler took over in November 2011. Myler attributed the cuts to a "restructuring" effort that will emphasize digital.

It has been a tumultuous day for New York news media. At The Village Voice, editor in chief Will Bourne and deputy editor Jessica Lustig stepped down rather than oversee a round of layoffs.
