ATLANTA Zimmerman Partners said it has been hired for ad duties by The Vitamin Shoppe. Billings are approximately $20 million, according to the shop.

The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Omnicom agency said it was tapped without a formal review to handle the New Jersey client's creative and media planning and buying.

Zimmerman is the first agency for The Vitamin Shoppe, which had previously handled advertising in-house and on a project basis.

Zimmerman said it would work with the vitamin and nutritional supplements product retailer to increase its market share. Tom Tolworthy, chief executive officer at The Vitamin Shoppe, said that Zimmerman was selected because of its understanding of the company's goals for future growth.

"Instead of only focusing on creative, Zimmerman connected to our overall business strategy," Tolworthy added. "Zimmerman is an agency defined by its clients' success, and we feel that they will help us become more successful as well."

Jordan Zimmerman, president and chief executive officer at Zimmerman, said the client has an expansive growth plan and the shop is developing efforts including broadcast advertising, interactive and "subterranean guerilla marketing" initiatives to help the client "become a fabric in its various locations' communities."

The first work for The Vitamin Shoppe is expected to launch at the end of this month or in early August, Zimmerman said.

The Vitamin Shoppe operates about 200 stores across the U.S.
