NEW YORK Young & Rubicam has hired TBWA\Chiat\Day’s L.H. Whelchel as its global chief talent officer.

Whelchel, 38, in part succeeds vp, organization and leadership development Ken Brown, who left on Monday. Whelchel’s brief, however, is broader than Brown’s.

In addition to recruiting talent, Whelchel will lead Y&R’s efforts to diversify its staff and launch a new international exchange program that will enable staffers to work 18-months stints outside their home offices.

“Talent recruitment and diversity are two key priorities for Y&R,” said worldwide CEO Hamish McLennan, in a statement.
