NEW YORK Yahoo! has introduced a mobile search service that will enable consumers to request local information, images and Web resources across multiple data-enabled wireless devices and networks.

The launch comes less than a month after Mountain View, Calif.-based Google debuted its short message service, which lets consumers send a query as a text message and get phone book listings, dictionary definitions and product prices, among other information.

Neither service currently accepts advertising. In response to whether there are plans to incorporate ads, a Google representative said there are not any currently, while a Yahoo! rep said, “As we continue to roll out this new service, we’ll continue to consider ways to improve and enhance it.”
