NEW YORK Marshall Field's in downtown Chicago is being outfitted with a Yahoo! lounge that will be equipped with computer kiosks and multimedia offerings for guests of the flagship State Street store.
The lounge, designed in the Web portal's signature yellow and purple, will be staffed by employees who will provide information on Yahoo! products. A different product or service will be highlighted each month, with Yahoo!'s Launch music destination the focus for September and its SBC DSL broadband service the featured offering for October.
Additionally, the Target Corp.-owned retailer plans to sell and display Yahoo!-branded products, including digital cameras, Web cams, keyboards, speakers and computer glasses.
"This initiative gives us the opportunity to put Yahoo! in the hands of consumers in a retail environment," said Murray Gaylord, vp of brand marketing at Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Yahoo!
Added Ralph Hughes, Marshall Field's regional director, "We wanted to bring a resource to our guests that would be extremely relevant and fun as well. We live on our computers today, whether we're working, sending e-mails, doing homework or searching for recipes and health tips. Yahoo! will give our guests a one-on-one opportunity to find out about other exciting ways to use the Internet."
Terms of the relationship were not disclosed.
