NEW YORK David Sable, president and CEO of Wunderman's Europe, Middle East and Africa regions since 2003, has risen to worldwide chief operating officer, a new position, the agency said today.

In his regional post, Sable, 52, was based in London. As COO, he will return to New York, where he will work closely with worldwide chairman and CEO Daniel Morel, to whom he continues to report. Wunderman is a division of WPP Group's Y&R Brands.

"Over the past five years, David has touched nearly every part of our business with enormous success," Morel said, in a statement. "David's talent is his ability to galvanize teams in support of a common goal. David creates a climate of confidence and collaboration that keeps people motivated and focused on success."

In addition to operational tasks, Sable will focus on strategic initiatives and new business development, the agency said. Morel, 55, is expected to concentrate more on the shop's digital practice, acquisitions and offerings in Asia and Latin America.

Succeeding Sable as president and CEO of EMEA is Marcus Starke, former chairman and CEO of Publicis in Frankfurt, Germany. At Wunderman, he will be based in Frankfurt and report to Morel.

Before Publicis, Starke, 44, was European CEO for 141 Worldwide. Earlier in his career, he held marketing posts on the client side for companies such as Cinzano International in Switzerland and Pirelli in Italy.
