London-based WPP said last week that its first-quarter revenue rose nearly 6 percent to $1.7 billion. On a like-for-like basis, excluding acquisitions and currency fluctuations, revenue was up almost 2 percent. (Adjusted to account for the weakness of the U.S. dollar overseas, the hike was more than 12 percent.) The holding company reported net new-business billings of $926 million for the quarter.
