LOS ANGELES Nike basketball spots featuring powerful nature metaphors break tonight before and after telecasts of NCAA tournament games, said the creative team from independent Wieden + Kennedy.

One spot (“Ants”) shows thousands of red ants swarming over team jerseys, sneakers, the scorer’s table and backboard, finally overtaking the basketball as if coming over a hill, then darkening the entire court as in a horror film. A voiceover by actor Forest Whitaker somberly explains the creative idea, that a great opponent on the court can work together so effectively as to be frighteningly unbeatable and overwhelming.
