Goodby, Silverstein Creative Fills Slot Vacated by Prieve
NEW YORK--In its first significant hire since Matt Seiler took over as managing director in May, Wieden + Kennedy has named Amy Nicholson a co-creative director, effective Sept. 6.
Nicholson, 36, joins the New York shop from Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco, where she is a senior art director. She replaces Michael Prieve, who was co-creative director with Stacy Wall; both left the shop earlier this month [Adweek, May 29]. When Nicholson arrives, Dan Wieden, CEO and chief creative officer, will relocate to New York to fill in as the second co-creative director until Wall's replacement is hired.
Agency officials declined comment, but a source said the shop was close to naming a permanent partner for Nicholson. Nicholson and her partner will report to Wieden.
"[Nicholson] loves this business, but she's not all about ads," Seiler said. "She's always looking for another way into the strategy."
He said the Wieden team admired her work on Goodby's "Got Milk?" TV spots, Nike's women's line and Dreyer's ice cream, among others. "My predecessors did the hard work in laying the foundation of Wieden, New York," Seiler said, referring to Prieve, Wall, and former managing director Tom Blessington. "I have the great fortune of being able to find partners to make this office blast off to be what it can be."
Wieden executives have recently expressed a desire to diversify the New York agency's client roster [Adweek, May 1]. ESPN is its largest client; others include Suretrade, Konami and Krispy Kreme.
"It's an opportunity to take on a different role and try it out," said Nicholson, who will manage a staff of 15 creatives. "I'm flattered Dan has this much faith in me."
Her career began at Young & Rubicam, Chicago, in 1987. In 1990, she was hired at Kirshenbaum Bond & Partners in New York, working on accounts such as Conran's and Snapple. In 1994, Nicholson joined Fallon, Minneapolis, as a senior art director. She joined Goodby in 1996. K
