LOS ANGELES After five years leading independent Wieden + Kennedy's Tokyo office, John Jay is returning to the shop's headquarters in Portland, Ore., as executive creative director, the agency has confirmed.
In Portland, he will partner with CCO Dan Wieden and COO Dave Luhr to helm overall agency operations. Jay will also work as a member of the global management team with an emphasis on Asian business.
He is expected to start his new job on Nov. 1.
Overall, the agency has estimated billings in Portland of about $330 million and nearly 200 employees.
Jay joined the shop in 1993 as a creative director on Nike, and also worked on brands such as Coca-Cola and Microsoft before being named a partner in 1996.
At the Tokyo office, he worked with creative teams on Nike, Sapporo, Uniqlo and Mori Development. Most recently, the Tokyo office led the global rollout of Sharp's Aquos high-end televisions.
Jay will be succeeded in Tokyo by Hiroshi Yonemura, who will manage the operation with cd Sumiko Sata and managing director Arto Hampartsoumian.
