ATLANTA Ken Majka will join White & Partners as executive creative director May 16, the shop said.
Majka, 54, is replacing Bill Puckett, who left the independent Washington, D.C., shop in March to freelance after five years as executive creative director.
The shop interviewed at least six candidates for the job before hiring Majka, said Matt White, chairman and CEO. Majka had been working with the shop on a freelance basis for the past two years, White said.
Adding Majka will allow the agency to pursue more new business, White said.
"Now that we've got Ken Majka on board, get ready, it's show time," he said.
Majka, a former copywriter, was an owner and chief creative officer at Carton Donofrio Partners, an independent Baltimore agency, for 15 years before leaving two years ago to freelance. While at Carton Donofrio, he worked on accounts for Procter & Gamble cosmetics, Maryland Tourism, Remax and the Campaign for Our Children teen pregnancy prevention program.
Majka also has worked as a senior creative director for the former Ted Bates Worldwide in New York, where he handled accounts for Prudential, Maybelline, Panasonic and M&M Mars, and WPP Group's Marsteller, also in New York.
Majka said he wants to make White & Partners the dominant agency between Philadelphia and Atlanta.
"Getting the consumer's attention is what it's all about," he said. "You do that with creative executions that grab you by the throat and make you pay attention, and by inventing new media tactics that place those executions in places nobody else owns.
"I've been known to put ads on people."
