WLUP radio in Chicago has always had attention-getting radio personalities and for the last eight years or so has also had notable advertising at the hands of its longtime partner Eisaman, Johns & Laws/Chicago.
The latest batch of TV ads, which break this week, promote the recently shifted disk jockey team of Steve Dahl and Garry Meier. The two moved into the morning drive-time slot last fall, replacing the ever-popular Jonathan Brandmeier, who moved to afternoons.
'The ads are designed to give people a slice of what Steve and Gary do in the morning . . . what some of their bits sound like,' said Mike Waterkotte, EJ&L svp/creative director. 'The ads also play off of the fact that men seem to prefer Steve and Gary over women.'
The spots show an quirky elderly couple listening to the bits in their kitchen with the man responding to the humor, while his wife deadpans.
