CHICAGO – Has G. Heileman Brewing found a buyer? Industry sources said last week the La Crosse, Wis., company may be ready to announce its acquisition, effective Jan. 1, by a Dallas group consisting of leveraged buyout partnership Hicks, Muse & Co. and Jim L. Turner, president of Dr Pepper Bottling Co. of Texas. Also reported to have discussed a bid are Stroh Brewery and Pittsburgh Brewing. Hicks, Muse has undertaken $3 billion in acquisitions since its formation in 1989; a predecessor firm, Hicks & Haas, is a Dr Pepper/7-Up shareholder.
