NEW YORK Jan Jacobs and Leo Premutico, both ecds at Publicis Groupe's Saatchi & Saatchi here, left the agency last week. Sources said the team plans to soon launch their own shop.
Jacobs, an art director, and Premutico, a copywriter, most recently worked on Wendy's, which earlier this year introduced a campaign featuring a man in a poorly fitted red pigtail wig talking about "hot, juicy burgers." Before that, the pair worked on Folger's viral video "Happy Morning" and the Tide Coldwater campaign that focused on how much energy the detergent saves.
Jacobs and Premutico joined the New York office two-and-a-half years ago from Saatchi in London, where Tony Granger had been ecd before moving to the New York headquarters in 2004 as CCO.
The pair's departure leaves four ecds in New York: Kerry Keenan, Ann Hayden, Michael Long and Alison Gragnano.
"I will replace them, although I'm not sure with who yet," said Granger. "It's a question of what do we need and who are the right people to bring in. We're not in any rush to knee-jerk replace the boys. The deal with them was that they would always come and help reinvent this place and then they would leave."
The team helped the agency win several awards during their tenure, including Agency-of-the-Year honors at this year's Cannes Lions festival.
The duo remains under contract with Saatchi until the end of October, though they left last Friday.
Jacobs and Premutico could not be reached for comment. Details about their new venture were not immediately available.
