Lowe Lintas & Partners has named a second general manager to tackle agency operations, freeing up New York president Rob Quish to concentrate on tasks such as business development.
Elissa Goldman, 42, carries the title of evp, general manager, operations—a new post. She works alongside Peter Hempel, who became evp, general manager, account management, in the fall [Adweek, Oct. 30]. Both report to Quish.
Previously, Goldman was evp, director of broadcast buying at Lowe Lintas. She retains those duties while adding responsibilities for agency policies and procedures.
In her new role, Goldman, who assumed the post late last month, works closely with colleagues to create efficiencies. She also oversees Rob Hannan, svp, director of integrated operations.
"A key challenge for her concerns our work flow, which is quite advanced on many accounts," Quish said. "Elissa will be responsible for creating more uniformity in processes and then implementing the next-generation systems."
The promotion comes as the agency prepares for the departure of Lee Garfinkel, its chairman, CEO and chief creative officer [Adweek, Jan. 8]. His creative duties will be assumed by Gary Goldsmith, who also holds the titles of chairman and chief creative officer.
Quish, who became president in June 1999, felt the operations job was tailor-made for Goldman, whom he des cribed as a "great manager" and a "catalyst for change." As such, he did not consider outside candidates.
Quish also cited Goldman's "no bullshit, get it done" attitude. "She's impatient with things that don't make sense and lets everybody know about it," he added.
Goldman's roots at the shop trace back 20 years to the former Scali McCabe Sloves, where her first job was as a junior buyer. She had held her evp, media post since 1997. Before Scali, she was an assistant buyer for local broadcast at the former Ted Bates.
As director of broadcast, Goldman has worked with nearly all Lowe Lintas clients—which she believes will serve her well as gm, operations.
