For two top retailers, this month hasn’t been all it was cracked up to be when it comes to same-store sales.

Last week, both Wal-Mart Stores and Target Corp. said June same-store sales at outlets open at least one year were tracking at the bottom end of estimates made by each company.

Bentonville, Ark.-based Wal-Mart said June sales increases to date were around the low end of the 4-6 percent range. The world’s largest retailer said the Southeast and West were the strongest-performing regions for the week ended June 18.
