TradeOut Auctioneers Look Shaky at Shop
BOSTON--Greco Ethridge Group appears to be learning a lesson about the rewards, and potential pitfalls, of doing business in the dot.com world.
The shop last week topped stiff competition to win a $20-30 million assignment from VStream, a Boulder, Colo., Internet specialist. Greco bested McCann-Erickson/A&L in San Francisco and Euro RSCG DSW Partners in Salt Lake City.
The account will be led by Greco chief relationship officer Paul Marobella. Ads will break Jan. 1 in business publications.
VStream is the biggest win ever for the 35-person shop, which expects to close 1999 with $60 million in combined billings in its Boston and New York offices, Marobella said.
The VStream acquisition may be especially timely if TradeOut.com--won by Greco this summer--puts its $15-20 million account into play. The Ardsley, N.Y.-based business-to-business auction site recently got a $22 million infusion from eBay and
other investors, sparking published reports that client officials are contacting several agencies.
"There is no big news to report on this subject," said Tradeout marketing official Dermott Ryan, who stopped short of saying the client has not talked to shops. Marobella said he had no knowledge of a review.
