Canadian agency Vickers & Benson this week will announce the opening of a full-service office here, its first in the U.S.
Named president of the office was Bill Flynn, who has headed his own agency here, Pierson & Flynn, after stints with Young & Rubicam in Chicago and New York.
The office opens with $20 million in billings from clients Harris Bank and the Canadian Tourism Commission, previously handled from the agency's Toronto headquarters. That financial base sets it apart from pure startups, said Vickers chairman John Hayter, and will help it add other clients.
Hayter, who joined Vickers in 1991, was chief executive officer of Alberto-Culver's U.S. grocery division before joining Y&R's office here in 1981 as its chief executive officer.
The Chicago office opens with a staff of 10, including group account director Ron Wolters, a former director of client services at Lee Hill who joined Vickers last year. Brian Ebling, previously at Leo Burnett, is the office's direct account director. Jim Hickey, previously at Western International Media, has joined Vickers as director of media services.
