CHICAGO BBDO Detroit chief creative officer Gary Topolewski has left the shop after just over a year in the post, according to the agency. The move comes as the BBDO network has realigned the agency's creative reporting responsibilities.
BBDO handles creative on DaimlerChrysler's $1.6 billion account out of its Detroit office.
In the creative reorganization, Detroit creative directors Gary Pascoe, who handles Chrysler; Rick Dennis and Sam Sefton, who oversee Dodge; and Robin Chrumka and Mike Stocker, who handle Jeep, will now report to BBDO North America chairman and chief creative officer David Lubars, the agency said.
In addition, the responsibilities for managing retail activities on those brands will be moved in line with the individual brands. Rick Betker will oversee the Chrysler brand and retail groups, Scott Russell will oversee Dodge national and retail and Harold Kobakof will oversee Jeep. All three will report to BBDO Detroit president Joe Garcia.
It was unclear where Topolewski was headed. He could not immediately be reached for comment.
Topolewski joined BBDO in May 2004 from Chemistri, where he was chairman and chief creative officer.
He has a history of moving among agencies. He joined Chemistri predecessor D'Arcy Masius Benton & Bowles in Detroit in 2001, though he had previously agreed to join crosstown shop Doner as an executive creative director.
