WASHINGTON, D.C.--Tony Wainwright has joined Raleigh, N.C.-based McKinney & Silver as vice chairman and director of business development. Wainwright left Harris Drury Cohen, Fort Lauderdale, Fla., as chairman two months ago to explore other opportunities, he said. The executive had been at the agency two years.

'I was looking for the perfect spot,' Wainwright said. 'I believe I've found it.'

'McKinney has a great talent base,' Wainwright added. 'It's a great platform for me to do something very dramatic and bring in a lot of new business,' he said.

Stan Harris, principal of HDC, said that Wainwright's departure a few months ago was a 'joint decision.' Wainwright said he agreed with that characterization. 'I wish him the best,' Harris said. 'McKinney is a wonderful agency.'

Harris Drury Cohen suffered another top defection earlier this year when partner John Drury left to become senior vice president and marketing director of AutoNation USA.

McKinney & Silver, a $168 million agency, agreed to be purchased by CKS Group of Cupertino, Calif., early this year. Shortly thereafter, M&S officials named president Don Maurer chief executive officer.

Maurer said that 'Tony adds one more ingredient to our mix,' adding that the new parent company has brought additional resources to manage new and existing clients. 'Tony is part of our evolution as an agency,' added Maurer.

Wainwright had previously been chairman of Compton Partners/Saatchi & Saatchi and chief executive officer of The Bloom Agency.
