After several years of jokingly proclaiming herself the Susan Lucci of the Women’s Advertising Club of Chicago, Starcom CEO Renetta McCann shed her perennial runner-up status and was named the 2002 Adwoman of the Year.

At the club’s luncheon, McCann told a roomful of advertising and media professionals the secrets to her success, in particular her ability to overcome and move beyond the boundaries she faced as an African American woman in a field dominated by white men.

The afternoon, though, was not without its levity.
