NEW YORK Timberland has unveiled a campaign that features billboards created by local artists working in the same materials the company uses to make its boots.

The effort launched in several New York boroughs supports 10061.com, an online gallery of user-generated content named after the stock keeping unit (or bar-code number) of the company’s signature yellow boot.

Canvas billboards placed in Harlem, Brooklyn and the Bronx do not contain any overt calls to action, though the slogan “Boot as canvas” appears, as does the Web address 10061.com.
