NEW YORK Tierney Communications has fired chief creative officer Kelly Simmons, the agency said today, citing a need for “alignment at the top.”

Simmons, who was terminated this morning and left the shop today, was the agency’s fourth creative chief in eight years.

“This business is no longer driven by one creative personality,” said Suzanne Tavani, senior vice president in charge of communications at the Interpublic Group agency. “We have really good bench strength here,” she said, noting some teams have been in place since the late 1990s, when Rochelle Klein helmed the creative department.
