Bromley, Montemayor Also Score Victories
DALLAS--A screaming bowler helped The Thompson Agency earn English-language best of show honors and contribute to its contest-leading 10 gold Addys at the 1997-98 American Advertising Awards competition in San Antonio.
Thompson topped the eight awards won by Bromley, Aguilar & Associates in the show hosted Saturday by the San Antonio American Advertising Federation chapter. Local winners now advance to the AAF District 10 regional competition.
Montemayor y Asociados was awarded best of show in the Spanish-language category for its Arizona Department of Health Services work. Montemayor also grabbed that honor in last year's show.
The best of show television commercial from Thompson for client Columbia Bowl features professional bowling legend Marshall Holman.
In the 30-second vignette, Holman lines up behind the lane's foul line, staring intently at the pins before him. He opens his mouth wide enough to expose his dental fillings and lets out a guttural screech that manages to knock down the pins without the aid of a ball. The spot was for Columbia's line of Rage bowling balls.
Also winning gold awards at the show were Anderson Advertising with seven, Creative Link with five and The Atkins Agency with four.
Atkins received two special judges' awards for best use of humor.
More than 700 entries were submitted for judging by a six-member panel that included officials from Leo Burnett and DDB Needham, both in Chicago, and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners in San Francisco.
