DALLAS--Texas agencies outpaced the competition at the 10th District American Advertising Federation convention in Oklahoma City last week, winning 80 of the 116 Addys in the regional awards contest.
DDB Needham Dallas took best of show honors for its 30-second 'Mosquito' television spot for McIlhenny Co.'s Tabasco sauce. The shop also earned three additional Addys.
The Richards Group's R&D unit, recently renamed Jackhammer, earned three Addys, along with best of print for AM General's Hummer vehicle ad. The ad also won a special judges award for art direction. A Motel 6 radio spot written by Jackhammer earned a special judges award for copywriting.
The Richards Group in Dallas, The Lord Group of Fort Worth, Texas, and Ogilvy & Mather, Houston, all earned seven Addys apiece. Other Texas winners included Irving's Temerlin McClain (four) and Houston's Stan & Lou (three).
New West Group led the winners in Oklahoma City, earning six of the 23 Addys given to shops in that state. Other Oklahoma entrants winning two or more were Ackerman McQueen, Harold's Stores, United Design Corp., Val Gene Associates and Visual Image Advertising.
Dieste & Partners and DDB Needham, both in Dallas, earned best foreign language ad honors for a TV spot they collaborated on for Pepsi.
Cranford Johnson Robinson Woods, Little Rock, was the top winner from Arkansas, with five Addys.
More than 1,100 entries were submitted from shops in Arkansas, Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
