They don't plan to be strip-searched like Jon Stewart during last week's Grammy Awards. But WLS News Talk 890 AM radio personalities Roe Conn and Garry Meier plan to generate some laughter this week as they co-host this year's Windy Awards.
The Chicago Advertising Federation, which sponsors the event, is making donations in the hosts' names to their favorite charities. Meier's choices are Metropolitan Family Services and Chicago Children's Heart Foun dation. Conn's charity is Old S. Pat's Church.
What can people expect to see from the duo? "It won't be Jon Stewart, but people should be prepared to buckle up," said Conn.
Meier equates the hosting assignment to being "traffic cops." "It's the awards that take over," he said.
Conn did give away one hint of their opening act: a handcuffed briefcase to show how the winners are cloaked in secrecy.
While the pair do not have direct ties to the advertising community, they pointed out that advertisers have been paying their bills.
The 2002 Windys will be held Tuesday at the School of the Art Institute. The affair will start with a cocktail reception followed by the award presentations at 7 p.m.
