Named to Lead Direct Arm APL/Columbian
CHICAGO--Ammirati Puris Lintas here has named Peter Steinhauser the new president of APL/Columbian, the direct marketing and promotion company it acquired in January.
Steinhauser succeeds Bernard J. Miller Jr., founder of Chicago-based Columbian, who will retire in September.
Brad Brinegar, president of APL Chicago, credited Miller and his late son, Bernie Miller III, who died earlier this year, with the development of "a fine and extremely well-run operation."
Steinhauser's job will be to build on that foundation, Brinegar said.
"What I hope to bring is focus and a real desire to motivate people," Steinhauser said.
While conceding there is an imperative for agency growth, Steinhauser said his first priority will be to stabilize relationships with existing clients such as Ameritech, Sears and Discover Card.
Steinhauser joined APL Chicago in January as executive vice president and director of integrated marketing services. He has been responsible for overseeing APL Chicago's expanded direct operation.
Steinhauser came to APL from Leo Burnett, Chicago, where he was senior vice president and managing partner of direct and promotional marketing. He has also worked in database consulting and business development.
Brinegar said the agency is exploring ways to develop more shared business opportunities between APL and Columbian.
"We hope to explore the synergies between our general and direct operations," he said.
