SAN FRANCISCO–McCann-Erickson Worldwide today laid off 5 percent of its staff of 250 here, an agency representative confirmed.

The agency said layoffs were spread across departments and were not due to any loss of clients but business projections for 2002.

It could not be immediately learned if departing employees were offered severance packages. McCann is the lead agency for the $300 million-$350 million Microsoft account and so far has weathered the economic downturn better than the other Bay Area agencies.
