LOS ANGELES Sony Electronics has dismissed its agency, WPP Group’s Young & Rubicam, sources said.

The shop’s Irvine, Calif., office handled the account of the San Diego-based client, which annually spends approximately $150 million on ads, per Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Y&R has held the business since 1998. The assignment includes Sony’s digital imaging, home entertainment and portable audio products, as well as its Vaio personal computer.

Y&R’s recent work has featured celebrities such as Los Lonely Boys for an October campaign pitching the Walkman, and a digital camera spot starring rocker Steven Tyler that ran during the holidays.
