Devine Communications has won the creative portion of Sonny’s Real Pit Bar-B-Q’s advertising account.

The St. Petersburg, Fla., shop defeated Peak Biety of Tampa, Fla., Cramer-Krasselt and Ten United Communications, both in Orlando, Fla., and two undisclosed agencies in the finals of a review that originally included more than a dozen Southeast agencies.

“They’re looking to grow their chain of restaurants,” said Devine creative director A. Glenn Arscott. “The fact that I worked on McDonald’s Canadian national account for 17 years didn’t hurt.”

Arscott, a former creative director at Vickers & Benson in Toronto, pitched the business with Devine general manager Tony Ceresoli.

“Sonny’s owners [cousins Jeffrey and Robert Yarmouth] were not looking for an agency that would indulge itself in a creative never-never land,” said Arscott.
