NEW YORK Interpublic Group said Tim Sompolski has joined the holding company as executive vice president and chief human resources officer. At IPG, he reports to chief executive David Bell.
He succeeds Brian Brooks, IPG's former chief human resources officer, who abruptly shifted to a consulting role in February.
Sompolski most recently had been with Altria Group, where he was the senior vice president of human resources and administration for six years until he left the company in January 2003. He also has held senior HR posts with Kraft Foods and McGraw-Edison.
"Our people, the way in which we recruit, retain and reward them, are our future. That's why from the start, talent has been one of the five strategic priorities we identified as a key driver of our turnaround," said Bell in a statement. "As part of this ongoing effort, Interpublic has pledged to become the most talent-friendly and talent-committed employer in our industry. Tim Sompolski will take us to a higher level in our ability to achieve that goal."
