Fluttering in the breeze on street-light poles throughout Northridge, Calif., a small army of new superheroes is trum peting the importance of higher education.

The four generic action heroes, three males and a female, were unfurled by local ad boutique D Zone in a bid to drum up business for an extension program offered by California State Univer sity at Northridge (CSUN).

While D Zone business director Scott Lomos admits the 8-foot-by-3-foot banners with the cartoon drawings may seem a bit lowbrow for a college, the work struck a chord with the client.
