ATLANTA Howard, Merrell & Partners has shuffled its management team following the departure of the Interpublic Group shop’s president, Howard Sherman, the agency said.

Sherman left the Raleigh, N.C., agency July 30 and moved to New York for “family reasons.” He had been president of the agency for 15 months.

The agency promoted Jim Cobb from business group director to chief operating officer. Cobb will assume most of Sherman’s duties, the agency said.

Cobb, who has been with the agency for 23 years, will work with a seven-partner management team that includes Donna Mercer, media director; Scott Crawford, creative director; Mike Ganey and Maureen Parish, both business group directors; Bruce Hall, research director; Dave Bryant, account planning director; and Connie Wells, director of finance.
