A pair of creative directors have arrived on the Connecticut ad scene. Mason & Madison in New Haven has named Mary Gatzemeyer creative director; Richard Gamer has taken over the same position at O’Neal & Prelle in Hartford.
Mason & Madison’s previous creative director, Michael Friend, left to start his own creativity training business, according to Fran Onofrio, the agency’s director of public relations. Friend will work as an independent contractor for Tom Monahan, co-founder of Leonard/Monahan in Providence, R.I. Monahan started his own creativity training operation, Before and After, which offers creative workshops to business executives.
Gatzemeyer previously served as senior vice president and creative director at Ketchum Advertising in Pittsburgh, where she worked for the past five years. Her accounts included Nationwide Insurance and Heinz USA.
“She’s just got a great combination of talent and energy,” said Mason & Madison executive vice president Harry Viens. “We were looking for a fresh, new approach to creative talent.”
Gamer joins O’Neal & Prelle from DCA Advertising in New York, where he served as creative supervisor on accounts such as Canon, Japan Airlines, Nikko Hotels and Seiko.
“His creative talent and national experience are right up there,” said O’Neal & Prelle president Mike Kintner. “We felt he could bring some breakthrough creative for our clients.”
Brad Londy, O’Neal & Prelle’s former creative director, left the shop to launch his own business, according to Kintner. Londy is still freelancing for his previous employer and helped with the search for his successor, Kintner added.
O’Neal & Prelle’s clients include Mystic Seaport, Bradley International Airport, the Connecticut Humane Society and Blue Cross Blue Shield of Connecticut. Mason & Madison counts Bell Atlantic Nynex Mobile, Yankee Energy Systems, Emhart Automotive and Loctite Corp. among its clients.
