DALLAS SBC Communications is pulling its corporate image work from Merkley + Partners and shifting it to two other roster shops: Rodgers Townsend and GSD&M, the client confirmed.

SBC representative Larry Solomon provided no details on how much Merkley work the two agencies would split.

“It was an opportunity to consolidate some of our agency work,” Solomon said. “We’re not going into details.”

Sources estimated corporate brand spending at $70 million. GSD&M and Rodgers are expected to work together on image efforts, with the former targeting consumers and the latter targeting the business customer, sources said.
