BOSTON Boston Beer has chosen a California sushi chef as the winner of its second annual Sam Adams Taste of Success Television Commercial Contest.

Paul Shanklin, a Santa Monica, Calif., chef, bested 24 other finalists with his commercial, “Replacing Labels,” for the chance to direct an original spot for the company. More than 3,000 contestants sent initial concepts to Boston Beer.

Shanklin received $100,000 to create a spot that will air nationally on NBC’s Saturday Night Live this spring.
