The Richards Group has recruited Diane Fannon, former executive vice president in charge of the J.C. Penney and Adams Golf accounts at Temerlin McClain.
Fannon, who has risen through the ranks from copywriting to account management, will serve as a principal at the $550 million Dallas agency.
"I've known her for 20 years and always respected her as a senior creative," said agency founder Stan Richards. "She's a very clear thinker. A lot of that comes from being a successful writer for a long time. She has the ability to think through strategic problems and get to the right answer."
Fannon began her career as a copywriter at Grey Advertising, New York. Stints with Tracy-Locke and Bozell in Dallas resulted in award-winning creative work for clients including Frito-Lay, Haggar, Taco Bell and Pepsi. In 1994, she left her creative director's position to lead the worldwide photography division of The Image Bank.
In 1998, Fannon returned to advertising at Temerlin McClain in Irving, Texas. She left that post one year later in what was seen as a move orchestrated by agency management to appease restless client J.C. Penney.
Fannon will immediately begin developing an account group at Richards.
"I love the entrepreneurial environment here; it's a pretty exciting way to do business," Fannon said.
