DALLAS The Cartel Group has been awarded the Hispanic advertising account of Rent-A-Center, the agency said.

According to the San Antonio shop, a national review for the Hispanic account began in December with 13 contenders. The Cartel Group then competed against two undisclosed agencies in the finals. Incumbent Euro RSCG Worldwide of Dallas, which holds the general-market assignment, did not participate, the shop said.

The Cartel Group is charged with providing strategic brand positioning, creative development and production for TV and print media. Billings are undisclosed.

"Our initial efforts in the Hispanic market with Euro RSCG have been successful, but we are now ready to take our vision to the next level," said Ann Davids, Rent-A-Center's vice president of advertising.

The first Hispanic campaign for the merchandiser will break in early 2005. The media mix has not yet been determined, the shop said.

Based in Plano, Texas, Rent-A-Center operates more than 2,650 company-owned stores nationwide and in Puerto Rico.
