ATLANTA Cognac maker Remy Martin has selected la comunidad to provide all advertising for its brands in the U.S., the company said.

The independent Miami shop won the account after a review of undisclosed agencies. There was no incumbent for the U.S. account.

The shop will produce broadcast, print, outdoor and Web advertising for the company and its entire line of spirits. Initial efforts will focus on Remy Martin's VSOP brand of cognac. Print ads for the brand will launch near the end of this year in urban, lifestyle and men's magazines.

Billings were not disclosed, but Remy Martin spent $3 million on measured media advertising last year, according to Nielsen Monitor-Plus.

Remy Martin also sells Grand Cru, 1738 Accord Royal, XO, Extra and Louis XIII brands of cognac.

"We were looking for an advertising agency partner with strong strategic thinking and creative that would break new ground, not just for Remy Martin but for the premium spirits category as a whole," said Steve Hissam, category director for the company. "We feel la comunidad is best suited to reinforce Remy Martin's position as an innovator and trade-up leader in the U.S."

Media Edge handles media buying for Remy Martin, and GCI Group provides public relations support.

Remy Martin is a division of Remy Cointreau of Paris.
