DALLAS A new Southwest chapter of the Promotion Marketing Association will hold its first event Jan. 25, a luncheon at the American Airlines Center hosted by the Dallas Mavericks National Basketball Association team.
Yum Brands, which includes Dallas-based Pizza Hut, is co-sponsor of the event, the association said.
The chapter is asking marketing and agency executives to attend along with industry suppliers.
"We have such a strong marketing and creative community in the Dallas metroplex that we're excited to get the chapter off the ground," said Bobbi Merkel of TracyLocke in Dallas, who spearheaded the foundation of the Southwest chapter.
The chapter will provide resources and activities for local professionals to network with peers, develop new business and continue their marketing education, Merkel said.
The group's founding board members include Merkel, Serena Precht and Sherry King of Southwest Airlines and Sheila Murphy Brian of SCA Promotions.
At the first event, participants will discuss sports marketing with a look inside the Dallas Mavericks organization, the chapter said. President of basketball operations Donnie Nelson will also provide a tour of the Mavericks practice facility and answer questions, the chapter said.
The fee for the tip-off luncheon is $35 for individuals from PMA corporate members and $45 for nonmembers, who can join the PMA at the event, the chapter said.
