It’s always nice to see some empirical data come along and kick a theory while it’s down. A new survey by WSL Strategic Retail performs this service for the much over-hyped trend toward “metrosexuality.” It turns out, lo and behold, that American men are not primping and preening on anything like the scale of women’s indulgence in such practices (see chart below). Gender aside, younger consumers are significantly more likely than their elders to say they have (or would, if they could afford it) taken elaborate steps to revamp their appearance.
